Inventory Visibility & Reorder Optimization
Timeline:
MVP: Q1 2024 (Facility visibility with mesh network)
Phase 1: Q3 2024 (GPS tracking from origin to warehouse)
Phase 2: Q3 2025 (Data accuracy and reorder logic from warehouse baseline)
Role: Product Manager
🧩 Why (Problem)
🔹 Business Pain:
No visibility into devices shipped to customers → resulting in billing inaccuracies.
Inability to track device utilization vs shipments created revenue and compliance risk.
🔹 Customer Pain:
No facility-level inventory view → led to poor distribution decisions.
Couldn’t calculate lead times or set reorder thresholds → increased stockouts or over-ordering.
🚀 What (Solution)
I led the end-to-end product solution:
Facilitated multi-stakeholder working sessions to align on problem scope and success metrics.
Created a phased delivery roadmap with incremental MVP milestones.
Collaborated across hardware, firmware, software, manufacturing, and quality to launch a fully integrated solution.
🔧 How (Execution)
🛠 Hardware:
Reused mesh-enabled BLE devices for in-facility tracking.
Combined with GPS-enabled devices to track shipments to the warehouse.
Tuned ping rates to suit movement detection vs battery life tradeoffs.
🔌 Firmware:
Added new inventory categorization logic.
Enabled device state updates to reflect shipment stage (e.g., in-transit, stocked, defective).
🏭 Manufacturing:
Updated workflows to tag device inventory status pre-shipping.
Initiated structured shipped device data feed into the inventory system.
💻 Software:
Wrote detailed PRDs and specs for a new web dashboard:
Facility-level device usage
Activated vs defective counts
Reorder thresholds and alerts
Collaborated with UI/UX and full-stack to ensure accuracy and usability.
✅ QA:
Defined detailed acceptance criteria:
Data integrity across states
Edge-case handling for defective devices
Facility-level metrics and dashboard calculations
